Sulphur Soak & Eagle Nest 11.07.06

Of course we had to take a hot soak in Pagosa Springs. We chose to go to The Overlook, located in a Victorian storefront it has tile showers and multiple soaking tubs. Badwater, Dates & Tecopa 11.02.2015

We went to the Furnace Creek Visitor Center to check on road conditions and the camper just barely fit under the covered parking. Most roads were still closed from the flash floods including CA 178 south of Badwater where 10 miles of pavement and roadbed were destroyed. Halloween in Saline Valley 10.31.2015

We went for a dawn soak in the Sunrise Pool, the upper pool at the lower springs, and met four people there who entertained us with stories of petroglyphs, local history, and clothes stealing donkeys. The Long Way to Saline Valley 10.29.2015

The wind was still howling when we woke up and we were grateful that the damp dunes reduced the amount of blowing sand.

Our destination was Saline Valley and since the north road was still closed we drove back down to Big Pine then south to Lone Pine and the Eastern Sierra Interagency Visitor Center to check the weather report and road conditions (there is no cell service in Death Valley). Hot Water and a Night in Oklahoma 10.09.2015

I don’t usually react to mosquito bites, but the many bites I got last night in the few minutes I was outside made an itchy mess of my ankles. Those Arkansas mosquitoes are virulent!

After breakfast we headed back to I40 and continued west with the trucks. There were many Dollar General trucks on the highway sadly reminding us that many rural residents have no other place to shop.

Remembering that Hot Springs National Park has delicious free spring water we approached Hot Springs up Gulpha Gorge on US 708. The National Park campground in the Gorge has small tightly spaced sites along the creek. It’s the closest campground to Hot Springs and does not take reservations.
