When we visit Chico we always go for a hike in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Lassen is one of our favorite parks and it is never crowded. This trip it was cold, windy and threatening to snow so we took a shorter hike to Shadow Lake.
On our way out we stopped at the Sulphur Works and Visitors Center where we learned that if it had actually snowed today, they would have closed the road and we would be stuck until it melted.
At least we had full cold weather camping gear and clothes in the car but with no cell service up there our families would have been very worried about us.
